Budget hotels in Houston
Houston covers enough ground that the neighborhood matters more than the city name. Downtown and East Downtown sit beside the George R. Brown convention area, and part of that core is on the light rail. Midtown and Montrose lead toward the Museum District. The Texas Medical Center, south of the museums, is the simpler base for a hospital visit. Uptown, around the Galleria, is west of the Loop. It fits offices and shopping, with a different rush-hour drive than the east side.
Flights split between two airports. George Bush Intercontinental is north, and Hobby is south. A room on the opposite side of the city from the flight adds a long transfer before check-in. Crowds at NRG Park pull demand south. When the dates can move, search a day earlier or a day later and compare the rooms that are actually offered.
On the results, turn on Free cancellation to keep a hotel only when at least one offer can be cancelled without a fee. The card then shows that offer, which can cost more than a non-refundable rate at the same hotel. The room still says Free cancellation or Non-refundable before you pay. A free-cancellation rate can end at the penalty deadline printed on it. A non-refundable rate stays non-refundable.
