Budget hotels in Chicago
Chicago is simpler if you start from the trains. The Loop is the elevated center: offices, nearby lakefront museums, and convention traffic when McCormick Place is busy. River North and the Magnificent Mile sit just north, the usual base for restaurants and the lake within a walk. Lincoln Park is farther north. Wicker Park and Logan Square are northwest neighborhoods with their own evenings, a train ride from the Loop. Hyde Park, to the south, fits the University of Chicago or the Museum of Science and Industry, not a Michigan Avenue trip.
O’Hare is northwest and Midway is southwest. A Loop hotel is a train ride from either, but the station you arrive at is not the same. Winter trips and summer festivals do not book like each other. When you can, search a night earlier and a night later. A room far from the L saves nothing if every outing needs a long car ride.
Free cancellation is a filter, not a claim that every rate refunds. Hotels with no refundable offer leave the list. Hotels with one stay on it, priced at that offer, which can be more than a rate you cannot cancel. The room still shows Free cancellation or Non-refundable before you pay. Free cancellation ends at the penalty deadline when the rate includes one. A non-refundable rate is not refunded through PennyStay.
No separate PennyStay booking fee. Our price is the total you see. Chicago shows the nightly rate beside the amount charged now. Any fee the hotel collects at check-in, such as a parking charge, is shown before you book. When a Chicago rate does not specify a tax, checkout says a tax may still apply. A Loop fee may still apply too. Confirming the booking is the step that reserves the room.
